 The world’s tenth busiest airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) is located to the south of the city and serves around five million passengers a year. It was named after one of Liverpool’s most famous sons and is also the first airport in the UK to be honoured with the name of an individual.

The main concourse is split into three sections and the boarding gates are located towards the rear of the building. The Kissing Gate Bar is a particular highlight, with an extensive cocktail menu and DJ spinning tracks in the evening. Those looking for luxury can check out the new Aspire Lounge, which is open to Priority Pass holders (you can buy one or get it free with American Express Platinum) and other major lounge passes, as well as those paying cash. The lounge is not huge but has a comfortable layout and good views of the runway and the departure gate area. It also has an extensive menu that includes a number of local favourites.

Parking at the airport is reasonably priced and there’s an option to pre-book. This means that when you arrive at the car park you can drive straight up to the barrier, and if you’ve booked in advance, the automatic number plate recognition system will recognise your vehicle and lift the barrier for you. There’s a multi-storey car park under the hotel, as well as on-street spaces near to the terminal.

Getting to the airport from central Liverpool is very quick and easy, with a journey time of around 30 minutes or so. Uber is available for a slightly higher cost but is usually the easiest way to get there. The airport is also very accessible by train, with services from Liverpool Lime Street running throughout the day. There is also a bus service that runs to the airport every 10 minutes, though this can be somewhat unreliable.
